ICYF successfully executed the “Virtual Workshop on Documentary Filmmaking” in partnership with the Al Jazeera Media Institute from the 16 – 19th of March. The initiative was aimed at promoting the participation of youth from diverse communities in the media as well as empowering young participants with the basic knowledge of documentary filmmaking. The event’s success is evident in the high turnout that saw the selection of 23 participants from a pool of over 400 applications. Male and female participants aged between the ages of 18-30 took part in the four-day virtual workshop with 23 countries represented. Mr. Jamel Dallali , Manager of Production at Aljazeera Documentary Channeljoined the workshop, sharing his knowledge and rich experience in the field with aspiring young filmmakers from across the four corners of the globe. ICYF continues to create platforms that stimulate growth and youth empowerment across all sectors by bringing the youth together with industry leaders, academics, and experts to encourage creativity by motivating them to push for success and excel in their fields for the development of their communities and the whole OIC region as well. The workshop was also aimed at equipping young people with the tools and techniques to develop impactful content and become the voice for their communities.Mr. Jamel Dallali touched on several aspects of documentary filmmaking, chief among these being the rules that all aspiring filmmakers must adhere to for them to be capable of producing newsworthy content of value.
