Turkey is a transcontinental country located in Southeastern Europe and Southwestern Asia bordering the Black Sea.
Modern Turkey was founded in by national hero Mustafa KEMAL, who was later honored with the title Ataturk or “Father of the Turks.”
Geographically, the Republic of Turkey is a bridge between Europe and Asia. Due to its location, surrounded by sea on three sides, Turkey has always been the center of great trade, silk and spice routes. Today, even in the most inaccessible or isolated corners, one can easily feel and see the traces of different cultures.
The government system is a republican parliamentary democracy; the chief of state is the president. Turkey officially switched to an executive presidency after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took the oath of office on July 9, 2018.
