Mr. Omarov earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Oriental Studies, Arabic Language, and Literature from Baku State University. He also obtained a second master’s degree in Political Science and Diplomacy from the University of Jordan, where he studied between 2012 and 2013.
From 2010 to 2019, he served in the Foreign Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its diplomatic missions abroad.
In October 2018, Mr. Omarov was appointed by the ICYF President as the ICYF Director-General and was elected by the Third ICYF General Assembly to the ICYF Executive Board, representing the Secretariat. In February 2024, he was re-appointed by the ICYF President as the ICYF Director-General and was re-elected by the Fifth ICYF General Assembly to the ICYF Executive Board, once again representing the Secretariat.
He is fluent in Arabic, English, Russian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani. Mr. Omarov is married and the father of four children.
