ICYF Condemns Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing of Rohingya Muslims

Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) strongly condemns the renewed outbreak of violent acts perpetrated by Myanmar’s army against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State, Myanmar. ICYF is extremely concerned that the current crisis will follow the path for ethnic cleansing and creating a breeding ground for recruitment by extremist elements, as described respectively by the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

It is saddening that more than 100,000 Rohingya people had to leave their own homes and find shelter in neighbour states, in particular Bangladesh in the past two weeks. Therefore, within the context of the initiative made by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, ICYF appeals the OIC Member States to join hands and provide resources for Bangladesh to open its borders to provide asylum and protection for more Rohingya Muslim refugees.

While expressing sincere hope for the current crises to end soonest, ICYF welcomes steps taken towards convening a special meeting of the OIC on the Rohingya issue so as to ensure that a peaceful permanent solution for the Rohingya Muslims is achieved.

The ICYF will continue working toward raising awareness amongst youth of the OIC geography and beyond about the suffering of the fellow Muslims in Rakhine, while pushing for their activism and human compassion so as to be humanitarian agents in the service of betterment of livelihood situation of Rohingya Muslims.
